Greeting the Giants
7.5 x 11 - Watercolor on 100% Cotton Paper
For many years now, Ive been hugely inspired by forests and trees. I moved to California in late 2013 and shortly after, I discovered the beauty of redwood trees and forests. These forests have brought me much peace and have inspired my paintings and art for 10 years now. I never seem to get tired of painting them and attempting to convey their beauty and sense of light. Im always looking for new ways to convey that feeling of being in the forest, under the canopy and walking amongst the giants bathed in dappled light.
This particular painting depicts a scene from a forest in Marin county named Roys Redwoods. These trees are right near the entrance to the forest, next to the road. Ive greeted them many times in the past and painted them a few times from different angles and lighting scenarios. Theyve been around for hundreds of years and Im sure theyll be there a while longer. I know theyll continue to inspire my paintings as long as Im still painting.
